Creating Dynamic Pathfinders

This course will explore various aspects of dynamic pathfinders (also known as subject guides, topic guides, information portals, etc.) This will include how to find and evaluate resources, ways to organize those resources electronically, and how to generate interest in the dynamic pathfinders once they have been created.

In this course, you will:

  • study online research trends and find ways to optimize the use of library resources
  • learn to find and organize resources that will meet the needs of the target audience
  • learn to evaluate and use various dynamic pathfinder tools, such as Library a la Carte, LibGuides, Slideshare, Delicious, wikis and more
  • discuss workflow issues regarding the creation and maintenance of pathfinders, including how to stay relevant over time

Expectations:

Students are expected to read and discuss various articles provided throughout the course, learn to evaluate tools for creating pathfinders, participate on discussion boards, and complete a pathfinder using one of the tools discussed in class.

Instructor:

Tamara Murray is currently working at the Westerville Public Library (near Columbus, Ohio) as their first Web Content Librarian. Her goal in this position is to create an interactive, fun, and informative user experience for patrons and staff.
