SLIS Professional Employment Services

The Student Services Coordinator provides placement services to UW-Madison students, alumni, and as time permits, other librarians seeking employment in Wisconsin including:

  • Email distribution of Madison area job notices to a subscription email list madslisjobs ;
  • Credentials Package Service, see the forms for establishing a package;
  • Employment application consultations (i.e. cover letter and resume assessment with a job ad) both one on one and in workshops;
  • Professional Employment Opportunities Center in the SLIS Laboratory Library where announcements and other resources are posted;
  • Career planning and job search presentations planned with student groups each year;
  • Hosting recruitment visits by prospective employers;
  • Monitoring salary and placement statistics of graduates from the school. Results of the annual salary and placement statistics survey of the UW-Madison SLIS graduates are reported to Library Journal for publication in the October issue each year.

Madslisjobs is a subscription list of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Library and Information Studies. Its primary purpose is to share LIS employment opportunities with SLIS students, alumni and friends. (Occasionally this list is used to make general interest announcements about the school.)

http://www.doit.wisc.edu/lists/wisclist/login.asp Type madslisjobs in the login box and click login. Job notices are kept for one year. The archives are listed chronologically and are indexed by key word. Subscribers can request messages in a digest.
