Visiting Instructor of Hebrew
Bard College

The Languages and Literature Department at Bard College seeks to fill a position for a Visiting Instructor of Hebrew.  This is a part-time appointment (one-third to two-thirds) to begin fall 2008 for a two-year contract with a possibility for renewal. The successful candidate should hold an M.A. or Ph.D. in Hebrew Literature or Jewish Studies, with native or near-native fluency required.  He or she should demonstrate a lively interest in undergraduate teaching at a small liberal arts college with an intellectually curious, sophisticated student body.  The ideal candidate will be able to teach all levels of Hebrew Language, with an emphasis on the first and second year.  Participation in the college’s First Year Seminar program is a possibility for the qualified candidate.

THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN invites applications for a full-time,
academic year-long appointment as a lecturer in Hebrew language, to begin
September 1, 2008 with possibility of annual renewal. Position funding is
pending budgetary approval. To be considered, candidates should have
completed a Masters degree or higher in Hebrew Language, Literature, or

Hebrew Lecturer
University of Denver

The University of Denver will hire a full-time, appointed Hebrew lecturer, non-tenure track, with full benefits to teach elementary and intermediate four-skills Hebrew language sequences. The appointment will take effect September 1, 2008 and is renewable. Course load is 8 courses per year in a quarter calendar. Other responsibilities include academic advising of students, selecting or composing undergraduate placement and graduate proficiency exams.

Candidates should have a proven record of excellence in teaching at the University level. Preferred : MA in Hebrew or Semitic languages/linguistics.
Lecturer will be appointed to build our first and second year Hebrew Language Program currently staffed by an adjunct.
Required: Native or near-native level of fluency in Hebrew and English.
MA should be in Hebrew or a pertinent field Experience teaching beginning and intermediate Hebrew required; ability to teach third-year classes in advanced Hebrew language and literature is desirable.

Preceptor in Modern Hebrew
Harvard University

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations seeks applicants for a preceptor in Modern Hebrew.  Beginning fall term, 2008, the position is renewable on a yearly basis for up to eight years based on enrollments, need, and performance. Teaching duties will include five courses per year. 

The successful applicant should be well versed on  the issues of teaching modern Hebrew  as a foreign language, have experience in teaching all levels of standard modern Hebrew, have native or near native proficiency in modern Hebrew, and must be able to conduct upper-level courses in modern Hebrew.  Specialization in modern Hebrew  literature, linguistics, and culture is highly desirable.  A strong doctoral record is preferred.

Lecturer in Hebrew
Georgia State University

The Hebrew Language Program in the Middle East Institute at Georgia State University invites applications for an anticipated Lecturer in Hebrew position, to begin in the Fall 2008 semester. Lecturer in Modern Hebrew

The School of International Letters and Cultures at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time lecturer in Modern Hebrew language to begin fall 2008. Employment will be on the basis of an initial one-year contract with three-year renewable contracts to follow, contingent upon merit and funding.

The teaching load will be three courses per semester and will include introductory to advanced-level classes. The successful candidate will also be expected to work with colleagues in designing instructional materials and in the development of the Hebrew program and its curriculum.

Hebrew Language and Literature Position
Middlebury College

MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE, MIDDLEBURY, VT seeks an Assistant Professor or Instructor (ABD), for a three-year term position in Modern Hebrew Language and Culture, beginning September 2008. The successful candidate will teach courses in Hebrew language and literature; a course on Hebrew literature and culture in translation may also be possible. Belzer Assistant Professor of Rabbinics
University of Wisconsin- Madison

University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant professor position in Hebrew & Semitic Studies with a specialization in Rabbinics, beginning August 2008. The successful candidate with be awarded the Belzer Professorship in Rabbinics and will be a member of the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies.

A Ph.D. is required prior to the start of the appointment. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching and service. Lewis H. and Selma Weinstein Professorship
Hebrew College

Hebrew College has begun a search for a scholar and teacher of distinction to occupy the Lewis H. and Selma Weinstein Professorship. The appointment will be made at the level of Associate or Full Professor and will begin in the Fall of 2007. The area of specialization is open. The Department of Asian and African languages and literature at Duke University invites applications for a full time Instructor in Modern Hebrew to begin in Fall 2007. Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University invites applications for two positions, beginning fall semester 2007: (1) Lecturer in modern Hebrew; this position is non-tenure track but commitment to a multi-year contract is available for the ideal candidate and (2) a one-year appointment as aVisiting Lecturer in modern Hebrew.  Proficiency in native modern Hebrew is required for both positions, and previous experience in teaching modern Hebrew to American students at an institution of higher learning is advantageous. 
 
Each Lecturer will teach three classes per semester at one or more levels of modern Hebrew following a curriculum and texts in use in the Jewish Studies Program.  Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Brandeis University announces an opening for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor on the Braun Chair of Modern Hebrew Literature in the Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies beginning in the academic year 2007-08.
