SCHOLARLY INTERESTS: Current area(s) of research: Writing-systems. Representation of writing-systems on computers, e.g. encodings. Making computer fonts for scholarly publications. Making efficient input-systems for non-standard characters (e.g. "How can I type yogh?"). Computer-Assisted Learning (CAL). The use of IT in teaching and learning, especially in language-learning. History of the Medieval Book: Medieval Chronicle Studies: Ph.D.s UNDER SUPERVISION: STAFF EXCHANGES/ONLINE RESOURCE CREATION/VIDEOCONFERENCING: I work in an academic service, not a teaching department, so do not supervise PhD students myself; I support others who do so. Yes, I am willing to help with IT support for the exchange of PhD students, in staff exchanges with WUN partner institutions (if research/teaching matches), and in conducting a videoconferencing seminar or course. MEDIEVAL COURSES TAUGHT: I do not teach medieval courses. I give IT support and advice for teaching and research, and develop software: fonts, CAL, etc. MEDIEVAL COURSES WOULD LIKE TO SEE DEVELOPED: Short courses to enable students (or staff) to gain a reading-only knowledge of languages very quickly. Freeware or very cheap CAL materials for medieval languages. This implies sharing the cost of development between many universities.
