Ecclesiastical history - Church and state in the Middle Ages.
Political history
State formation, particularly the early development of the Norwegian kingship, and the fate of the medieval Norwegian state in the Late Middle Ages.
Relations between Norway and the Holy See, Church and religion between unity and variety and between centre and periphery in medieval Europe, with a particular view to monasticism generally, particularly the Augustinian movement in Norway.
Subdisciplines:
Diplomatics, prosopography.

WUN-IDENTIFIED RESEARCH COLLABORATION THEMES:
Multilingualism in the Middle Ages:
No teaching, but something which I have to take into my considerations concerning sources in Old Norse, Latin, other vernaculars like French and German. Initiator of the project Regesta Hanseatica Nordica, which aims to give abstracts in Scandinavian and English on all sources concerning the German Hansa's relations to the Nordic countries.

No teaching, but a matter of interest in my research (Icelandic Annals).
