Old Church Slavic (aka Old Church Slavonic or Old Bulgarian) is a language that was spoken in the Balkan peninsula in the 6th and 7th century AD. It was primarily used for literature, and church liturgy, verses and prayers (hence the name). Today, it remains the official language of the Russian Orthodox Church.
