The laptops are circulated only from the AV Pool (room 275 Van Hise) and must be picked up and returned only in that room. If you need to pick up or return the laptop before or after hours (M-F 8:30-4:30), you must make special arrangements ahead of time with Jodi Samuels, AV Services Coordinator (246 Van Hise Hall, 2-4965). The laptops are circulated only for the class hour(s) needed and must be returned promptly. |

You may install software and personal files at your own risk. These files may be deleted through regular maintenance. Contact an LSS staff member to request permanent software additions. |

The laptops are intended for on-campus (primarily Van Hise) use only. They may NOT be taken off campus. |

|
We have configured the laptops to work in Van Hise classrooms but not in other buildings. Some rooms in Van Hise may require an AC extension cord available in the AV Pool. Audio cables are provided in the laptop cases and will work in Van Hise classrooms but not necessarily in other buildings. |

Once you pick up the laptop at the AV Pool, you are financially responsible for the computer and the associated pieces of hardware, just as with any other piece of AV Pool equipment. An illustrated list of laptop equipment is provided in the More Information section for each laptop. |
Contact Jodi Samuels, AV Services Coordinator (246 Van Hise Hall, 2-4965) if you have questions about use of the laptops.
If you are not certain you know how to set up and run the laptop in your classroom, try to find time for a test run of the equipment. Mediated classrooms in Van Hise can be reserved for ad-hoc use by asking your department secretary to contact Timetable and Classroom Scheduling (TACS).
In addition to the instructions on these pages, more detailed instructions are available in each room. You can also make an appointment with a staff member well in advance of the day that you plan to use the laptop. We can show you how to set up and use the laptop.
Since these laptops are intended for classroom use, we have included only basic presentation, word processing, & web software on them. The laptops run Windows 98 or XP. Netscape and Internet Explorer are installed with popular multimedia plugins like Real Player, Quicktime, Shockwave, etc. WordPerfect, Microsoft Office, and anti-virus software are also installed.
If you are wondering about a specific plugin or software package, contact a staff member. Remember that software and file additions are performed at your own risk.
