Global Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Forum Course Development Grant

The GLLCF is pleased to offer faculty and academic staff the opportunity to apply for small grants (generally $2000 or less, but occasionally up to $3000) to improve existing courses or develop new courses in areas of interest to the Forum.  This idea was generated in the Spring 2000 symposium on Languages Across Disciplines at which several faculty members identified specific instructional innovations they wished to make and described the modest financial  assistance that would make this innovation possible.

For the purpose of these grants, “areas of Forum interest” is defined as any topic on which the Forum has hosted a conference or on which there is currently an interest group.  To date, these areas include:

From conferences:

Best Practices in Teaching Global Languages and Cultures
Language Gain and Study Abroad
Mind, Culture, Drama in Language Teaching
Teaching Literatures Across Cultures

Languages Across Disciplines
The Necessary Nexus of Language, Literature, and Culture

From interest group efforts:

Connections among languages and other disciplines on campus
Efforts to respond to low enrollment in less-commonly-taught-language courses
Distance education and less-commonly-taught languages
Course Development
Study Abroad

The funds can be used to buy equipment, to provide student hourly assistance, or to provide training for faculty or academic staff.  They cannot be used for faculty compensation or release time.  Funds must be spent by June 30, 2003.

Applications should include a short proposal that explains the course and the proposed innovation (2 pages maximum) and an indication of what funds are requested and how they will be used (1 page maximum).
