Fields of Study:

Linguistics, particularly historical syntax of Chinese; modern Chinese language instruction; Second Language Acquisition.


Current Research:

Historical syntax and language change through both synchronic and diachronic approaches.
The development of "function words" from ca 1400 BCE to the CE tenth century.
Application of Markedness Theory to analyze students' acquisition of Chinese.
Pedagogical strategies in teaching Chinese.

First Year Chinese, Third Year Chinese, Teaching of Chinese as a Second Language, Introduction to Chinese Linguistics, History of Chinese Language.
