The Asian American Studies Program of the University of Wisconsin-Madison is hiring a teaching assistant for Spring semester 2011 for the following course:
Asian Am 102: Intro to Comparative Ethnic Studies
(Instructor: Jan Miyasaki)
33.3% Teaching Assistantship (includes tuition remission and benefits)
Course Description:
This introductory course introduces students to a critical race perspective and thinking comparatively about racial ethnic groups in the United States. The course is cross-listed with the Folklore Studies and Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Programs, and will use an interdisciplinary approach.
Since this semester will be taught by the Asian American Studies Program, preference will be given to a graduate student with interest in Asian American Studies. The course will have 60 students. The Teaching Assistant will attend lectures and lead four discussion sections of 15 students each. The Teaching Assistant will need to be available for pre-class discussions/trainings with the instructor.

The Asian American Studies Program evaluates applicants for teaching assistantships by considering a variety of factors, including:
- Expertise in and interest in Asian American Studies is preferred.
- Experience in teaching -- either from prior teaching experience or demonstrated abilities of facilitating groups and the ability to communicate material clearly and stimulate student interest.
- Experience in evaluating student work is preferred.
- Current enrollment in a UW-Madison graduate program.

Victor Jew received a Dr. Brenda Plfaehler Award for having worked with students in the Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO.) He was recognized on April 28, 2010 at 4pm in the Conference Dining Room at the Lowell Hall. Students in CeO (formerly TRIO) nominate people who have made a major impact on their educational achievement at UW-Madison at the time of graduation.
