Prof. Sandra Adell

Professor of Literature, Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ph.D., UW-Madison, Comparative Literature. Areas of specialization: Black literature (English, French, Spanish), Modern Narrative, Literary Criticism and Theory, and Continental French literature and philosophy, African American Theater History. Books: Double-Consciousness / Double Bind: Theoretical Issues in Twentieth-Century Black Literature (University of Illinois Press, 1994); Literary Masters: Toni Morrison (The Gale Group, 2004) and an edited reference book for general readers, Dictionary of Twentieth Century Culture: African American Culture (The Gale Group, 1996). Other publications in a number of scholarly journals, among them, Diacritics, Transitions, Comparative Literature Studies, and the Journal of Caribbean Studies. Adell is also a commercial print model and on-screen and theater actor. She is a proud member of three professional acting unions: Screen Actors Guild (SAG); the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) and the Actors Equity Association (AEA).
